Prosxima Dance Company

Prosxima Dance Company was founded in 1996 and it is based on the ideal of utilizing the dance medium to foster communication within the wider community.

Prosxima Dance Company worked as a collective of artists, allowing for diversity to emerge and be integrated in the creative process. After a decade the collective felt the need to pursue independent paths leading in 2006 the choreographer Maria Koliopoulou to take over the full responsibility of the company and become its artistic director. However a strong core of the company founding members – Anna Mimi and Dimitra Kritikidi – remain intact counting 30 years of solidarity and friendship.

Diversity and Inclusion

Prosxima Dance Company and choreographer M. Koliopoulou are active in the field of performing arts with vulnerable social groups, presenting accessible works in Greece through their long-term collaboration with the Onassis Stegi and the Unlimited Access, iDance: Dance without discrimination and Europe Beyond Access Programme for a series of workshops for people with and without disabilities as well as the choreographic work ‘The Flight’ presented during the International Unlimited Festival  2015. Prosxima Dance Company has inclusive works commissioned for the Athens Festival such as  ‘Clear Midnight’ for a mixed group of dancers with and without disabilities (2021), as well as internationally: The choreographic work’ Dancing (fancy)’ was created with the support of NRW KULTURsekretariat, ROOTS & ROUTES and Goethe Institute for the program ‘Culture Moves Europe’ (2023), The work Made for the dancer with disability Madeleine Månsson started with the support of the Swedish International Dance Programme (2021) and the work Here and Where? following an invitation from the inclusive dance company Stopgap dance company (2019) in England.

Prosxima Dance Company is currently leading a series of inclusive workshops with the support of John S. LatsisPublic Benefit Foundation in the framework of “Points of Support”, a co-funded programme by 10 public benefit foundations for the Social Integration of People with Disabilities. The workshops are taking place in two major universities; the University of Patras and the University of Athens.
